CNCI
is proud of its leading role in creating a heightened
awareness of the grave situation the country is faced
with on deepening energy crisis in Sri Lanka among the
Industrial Sector/Business Community and the General
Public.
After lobbying with the government ministers and the
authorities for a long period, the CNCI having understood
the underlying baseless reasons for non commissioning
of alternate power resources in the country commenced
negotiations with various other pressure groups in supporting
the government to bring about necessary power sector
reforms including commissioning of Upper Kotmale Hydro
Power (UKHP) project and the proposed Norachcholai Coal
Power Plant Project.
CNCI forward a memorandum to H.E. Chandrika Bandaranaike
Kumaratunga, the President requesting her intervention
to solve the Energy Crisis. The letter was copied to
the Hon. Minister of Power & Energy. Our letter
received much publicity through media.
CNCI also became a member of the South Asian Region
Energy Coalition (SAREC) an organization based in New
Delhi, India in order to step up our agitation towards
low cost dependable power in the country.
